We are hard at work at Filegear trying to improve our experience for our broad international audience. We have received several requests to improve the remote access speeds for non US users. We value our user feedback and have just released a feature that will help get your Filegear device operating at the speeds its meant to be at.
We currently have servers set up in Australia, Europe, Singapore, and United States. You can choose the server that is closest to you to improve the remote access speeds to your device.
Selecting a Different Relay Server
While logged in and connected to your device, navigate to the settings page. You can get there by clicking on the profile icon in the top right corner and selecting the Settings option.
Select on the "Remote" menu option on the left side of your screen. This will take you to a page that currently shows your default relay provider. The default value is "Filegear Relay (United States)".
Click on the provider dropdown to show the list of Relay server options. This will show you the four regional relay servers provided by Filegear. Select the option that is closest to your location.
After changing your provider the Filegear device needs a new certificate issued for this new relay address.
Click on the "Update Certificate" button to reissue a certificate for your device with the new address. This step can take up to a minute or two to finish.
Once this is complete your box is good to go with its new relay address, hopefully a little closer to home.
If you have any questions about this process, or run into any trouble, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
